I slept on it...
and I'm still not satisfied...
I am thankful that this "Non-Mom" term was eliminated. Seeing that really rubbed me the wrong way..and I am thankful that my reaction was addressed via an email from the show and a comment from the PR agency hired by Teleflora...hey, there's even an apology on the show's page, but as Susan and Lisa L. have stated in the comments: The "non" title was heinous, but keeping adoptive moms in the category with grandparents and step parents, and not simply with "moms," still makes pretty much the same statement!
And I have to wonder...where's the category for Best Mom Via IUI/IVF?
Still won't be tuning in...
Of course it's not okay. It was divisive.
The best response I saw was..."A non-mom? Isn't that a dad?"
I posted their response, too...and am glad that they made some changes...but am just blown away in this hyper-pc culture of ours that this was ever considered okay.
I don't really think ANY categories are okay.
Can you imagine d2b pausing to wonder who to call when she's sick--her single, working or adoptive mom? Nyet.
They were trying to broaden their demographics and have more than one "winner". FAILED on that one!
Why should it be a competition anyway? Haven't you proven that motherhood is already too competitive? (Not, lovely, that YOU'RE being competitive. Others seem to want to compete with you.)
Look. It's a whole 'nother post here in your comments.

This is horrible. Simply disgusting to me....I can't believe it..I wish we can do something bigger to protest this. It's wrong.

Hey, I'm just flattered to make it into the same category with "neighbor"!
Btw, if little Johnny nominates his hard-working, selfless, loving mommy, the one who cared for him as a sickly infant and thru everything else, what happens if halfway thru the show a producer discovers that Johnny is...ADOPTED???? Scandal!
Yikes. As a veteran of the entertainment/advertising world, trust me...absolutely NOTHING gets out without several levels of approvals. NBC oughta be seriously mortified.

SAME HERE - It's horrible. What the hell is a non-mom anyway? Doesn't make sense..it doesn't matter HOW you became a mom, it's that you ARE one.
Happy Mother's Day! Alexander's MOM!

Even the apology is offensive to me.
This non mom won't be giving them any on my non money.
